If you’ve ever seen a “models wanted” post and assumed it wasn’t for you? Think again. Beauty modelling in Australia doesn’t require a portfolio, an agency, or any professional experience. It simply means you’re the person receiving a treatment while a practitioner trains, practises, or builds their portfolio. And in most cases, you get it for free.
What does a beauty model actually do?
A beauty model sits (or lies) in a treatment chair while a beauty practitioner works on them. That could be a lash extension set, a facial, a hair colour, a brow lamination, or even injectables. Your job is to show up on time, stay still, follow instructions, and leave an honest review. That’s it.
The term “model” in this context has nothing to do with fashion modelling. There are no height, weight, or appearance requirements. Anyone can be a beauty model.
Step-by-step: becoming a beauty model
1. Create a free account on Model Call
Model Call is Australia’s marketplace for beauty model calls. Sign up with your email, no credit card needed unless you book a paid session. Once you’re in, you can browse all available model calls by suburb, category, and price.
2. Browse treatments near you
Filter by your city or suburb to see what’s available. Listings show the treatment type, original price, model price (often $0), duration, and reviews from other models. Sydney currently has the most listings, with Melbourne and Brisbane expanding.
3. Book a session
When you find a treatment you want, select a date and time and confirm your booking. For free sessions, you’ll add a card on file (no charge unless you no-show). For discounted sessions, a small deposit is taken at booking.
4. Show up and enjoy
Arrive at the clinic or academy at your booked time. Be cooperative, follow instructions, and enjoy your treatment. After your session, you’ll receive a prompt to leave a review, which helps other models and helps the practitioner build their reputation.
5. Repeat
Many models book multiple sessions per month. It’s an incredible way to access treatments that would normally cost $100–$500+ for free. The more you book and review, the more the community grows.
