Free beauty treatments sound amazing — and they are, when booked safely. The vast majority of model call experiences are professional and positive. But knowing how to identify legitimate operators and protect yourself is important for every first-time model.
Always book through a verified platform
Model calls posted on Instagram stories or in Facebook groups are harder to verify. On Model Call, every business undergoes manual verification before their listings go live. We check business registration, insurance, and practitioner credentials. Unverified listings never appear on the platform.
Red flags to watch for
- Requests to provide payment information outside a secure booking system
- No business address or only a residential address for clinical treatments
- No before-and-after photos, no reviews, or reviews that all sound identical
- Pressure to book immediately without time to read the listing
- Requests for personal information beyond what’s needed for a consultation form
- Unregistered practitioners offering prescription treatments (injectables must be administered by or under the supervision of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or doctor in Australia)
For student-supervised treatments
Student training sessions are safe and common, but you should confirm: (1) a qualified supervisor will be present throughout the treatment, and (2) the student is enrolled at a registered training organisation (RTO). If you’re unsure, ask directly before booking.
Your rights as a consumer in Australia
Under the Australian Consumer Law, beauty services must be provided with due care and skill. If something goes wrong due to negligence, you have the right to a remedy — repair, replacement, or refund. Always raise concerns with the business first. If they don’t resolve it, you can contact your state’s consumer affairs body or the ACCC.
